Working cash in hand, and complaining about not getting the NMW is abit pot calling kettle black isn't it?

If i have misunderstood and you are indeed working above board then yes it's illegal to pay a 24 year old £5ph, and you should contact the HMRC for further advice.

    Good for you maz_student:T

I like your attitude and think its pretty altruistic to go to the trouble of going back and telling her why....(lets hope enough people do - and she has to change her mind about not paying NMW).

Lets face it - this excuse about not paying NMW "until you know the system" is a pretty feeble one. Just how long would it take an obviously intelligent person like yourself to learn how to operate a cash register - 5 minutes or 10? But she would obviously be prepared to "spin out" that excuse for as long as she possibly could.

Good luck in saving for your house.
