Informal inquiry about vacancy

Hi. I'm in the process of applying for a new job, and I haven't had much luck with getting interviews. I have found a vacancy to apply for that would really suit me and I would like to make informal enquiries about the job, but I've never done that before and I'm not sure what questions to ask. I'm having a bit of a blank…

Well I managed to find a few minutes to phone about the job - wasn't easy!. I had a long informative chat with the Head of Department about the role and I was invited to arrange a visit to find out more about the department.
