Who said this would be easy!! A debt free diary

Well, here we go, my first entry in my diary. My aim is to be debt free and to own my own little terrace house one day:T That day is many years off, but never mind.
My situation is thus;
I am married with two children, a dog and a cat. We all live in a rented house and one of my biggest dreams is to own my own little pile of bricks and mortar one day. Why is this so important to me? I think its because I want to feel in charge of my life and at 40 I don't feel in charge of anything when I have to answer to a landlord and banks!!

Things started going wrong financialy when we lost a big contract. To compensate we used the credit cards for everyday items, food, etc. This snowballed and then we moved to another rented house. It was in a poor state, so we did it up cosmetically and then took out a consolidation loan. Money was tight, so I went to uni to retrain for a better paid job and yes, you guessed it, I didn't have a student loan, I had a normal one and the debt got bigger.

Now I am working and get paid a good wage, but things have gone up and again I am using overdrafts for normal everyday things. So.... I went to the bank, their answer... stop spending money:confused:

I have been in touch with CAB and they have done me a budget and written to my creditors about a DMP (17 feb 09) and guess what, Lloyds are ignoring the letters, charging me late payment fees because they are saying the payments are not the minimum they require and yesterday they took the shortfall payment out of my account, putting me into overdraft:eek:
Luckily, I had already opened a new bank account and had our wages paid into that.

I didn't think this would be easy, but I am facing up to my debts and Lloyds are being horrable and I feel like running away. (I wont) My debts are increasing through charges and the DMP seems to be taking forever to set up and all seems impossable.

Joint Income £2393.58
Basic expenditure £1985.60
Amount offered to credotors £408.00
Total debt at 17 feb £32055.31

Debt free date - somewhere in the distant future
Goal - to get on a fixed repayment plan with an end date to aim for - achieved finally after great resistance and huge charges from LLoyds rip offs :T

Dealing with my debt and my weight :D
    Debt at LBM 22/12/08 £33,270
Debt now £30,100 (9.5% paid off)

    £2 coins saved and banked = £210
  • Don't worry my debt is £10,000 more than yours and I only pay £300. It takes time but it will be ok.

  • :grouphug: Perhaps a dodgy group hug will complete the smile. Good luck!
  • That did the trick, the smile is up and running now.

  • The hard part is waiting for the DMP to be completely set up. Lloyds and Argos are ignoring the CAB letters and GE money are saying they haven't recieved the income/expenditure sheet. So I am being charged late payment fees, cos the token payment doesn't match the original payment and Lloyds were ringing on the hour, every hour demanding money, untill I told them I would report them to the FOS. Its seems more stressful now.
