...and if yes, do you have any tips or can you suggest a good, reliable online site to use?
I am about to scrap my car but won't get any money for it (afaik). So, feeling that it would be a shame not to get a few pennies (or hopefully pounds) from doing so, I thought about trying to sell the registration plate first (HUI so thought a Hugh or Hughie might be interested). Have looked at a few online sites such as regtransfer.co.uk (as I don't want hassle of doing paperwork myself) and received a quote from them today. Bit wary of dealing with companies I know nothing about though.

Not sold any plates but did trade in my car in England which obv had NI plates but I kept the NI plates and gave the English ones back.
Only prob I found having NI plates outside NI was that loads of insurance companies wouldnt offer me insurance as the car had NI plates, even though I lived in England and had done for 2 years.
I would try and sell them if you are sure you wont get anything for the car, why not list it on E-bay even for scrap, you never know....0 -
I have been trying to sell a number plate for ages. I was told by a few companys that it was worth over £2000 but that was over a year ago and it has still not been sold.....
Unless its something that would be really popular then I wouldn't advise trying...
Just my thoughts on the matter!

You can advertise your number (and anything else you have for sale ) FREE in these :-

https://www.freeads.co.uk"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
Unless it has only one or two numbers it is unlikely to be valuable or sought after, sorry.0

a friend of mine has had quite a bit of success selling numbers through speedy registrations - https://www.speedyreg.co.uk - they are an NI based company.
Realistically though, unless its a 'nice' four digit number like 2222 or 4444 or something or a 'balanced' 3 digit number like 313 or 737 OR a two digit number its not going to be worth much....0 -
hi I have sold 2 N/I plates over the last 4 years that were JAZ**** and HAZ**** ,both got me around £250 in my hand ,only thing I had to do was bring the second car to a test centre to get it checked ,but done nothing else they done everything and have just got another car now and will be putting this number up for sale, now as far as I know to sell a plate the car has to be taxed and mot,ed, or you had the plate on retention that is ,I think you pay the dvlni about £80 to keep this plate, check out the dvlni web site and it should tell you how to do this.If you need any more info ,I will try to dig out who sold my last plate and try to tell you what else I know0

Thanks. Guess it may be a problem then as this is my old car and I have it on SORN as I let the MOT and Tax lapse a while ago (car is decorating our back yard!). I did read the DVLNI site and regtransfers, but neither of them seemed to indicate if it was possible to sell a number plate when a car is on SORN. Will probably have to kick myself for not thinking of selling the reg whilst I still had tax/mot in force.butterfly )i(0
