hi
i'm a newbie, have been lurking for weeks reading all the threads, and i'm on the way to being old style.
I have been given a tray full of yellow plums, and want to make jam in my breadmaker, but have just cut one open and are brown in the middle, can i still use.
Have tried the threads for jam and can't find anything, although i found lots of other useful threads.

The brown in the middle of plums often seems to indicate a maggot but it might be the only affected plum. Have a look at the others and if they are ok I would cut the good bits from the first plum. I would use pectin with plums by the way.0

I just made some this weekend with a punnet I found at the back of the fridge  not ideal but it still worked.I agree with kitty to add some extra pectin as plum is normally quite a 'soft set' jam.Cut out any bits that look a bit iffy and do chop them into 1/4 's at least too, I do mine into about 1/8th's

Just curious
but where do you get a tray of plums in February?
I'd cut the brown bits away and stew them with sugar and freeze.Or, you can freeze them whole or cut in half.0 -
