When do I pay any Tax I owe?

Since April 2008 I have been a pensioner. I receive £512 every 4 weeks so this gives me an income of £6656. Obviously this takes me over the £6035? allowance for this year. Can anyone tell me when/how I pay the tax owed to the Taxman. Sally

Where is this money coming from - a former employer or the state pension?
If from a former employer, I wonder why they are not operating PAYE?

Hi, Thanks for the replies. Yes - under 65 and state pension after working non stop for 40 odd years! Love 'retirement' by the way. Took private pension as a lump sum (small amount) which was taxed. Thanks Sally

If your only income is the state pension which is paid gross you will need to contact HMRC yourself and explain that you are over the personal allowance. They will then make appropriate arrangements to collect the tax.

You will need to complete annual self assessment tax returns as there is no other way to collect the tax due. As jem16 says, if you call your tax office they will arrange for these to be issued each year.
