What are those frozen steaklettes like?

Hi all

I'm fairly new and am trying to get into the MSE way by using up all of the goodies in my freezer. I have come across an unopened pack of frozen steaklettes from Iceland, and although I'm not a fussy eater, OH can be a bit of a food snob sometimes.

Has anyone else tried them and how can I make them more exciting lol

love

  • Thanks Black Saturn - I've read a few of your posts and have seen how fantastic you are at managing your food budget so can believe your comments! I've just moved in with the OH and have been suffering from the 'put whatever you want in the trolley' illness. Resulting in a sometimes earth shattering food bill of £300 for 2 people!!!!!!

    I'm learning fast though!!!

Even though they are refromed meat with added fat and water etc. Treat them like steak and make a nice sauce to go with it. And serve with chips or jacket potatoes and salad.

I am sure you OH will never know.

£300 on food for two people  that is 3 months worth of shooping in are household.

As you say it is easy just to chuck in the trolley and forget about the price.

    Enjoy them.

we personally didn't like them. we found them very bland and dry . also so much fat and water came out of them they shrunk to about half the size.

I quite like them occasionally. Be sure not to grill them for too long though. You want them just turning nicely brown on either side or they do shrivel and dry up.

  • Stick them in the 'Baby George' if you have one and watch all the fat and water run out then give them to the nearest dumb animal to eat and never buy them again

Oh, confusion...were they purchased by yourself and put in your freezer, or purchased by himself and put in his freezer which is now your freezer?

If purchased by Mr Littlemiss-lotsofdebt I'd ensure he gets a whole one with not too much gravy on. However if you purchased them then for the sake of not throwing them away you could hide them in a very spicy or garlicy stew/casserole by chopping them up and chucking them in with everything else. Or as JackieO suggests slip them to a passing furry animal and say no more.
  • I love them...in fact I have not had any for a few years now (moved onto the real thing!)..however on Saturday I will pop some in my trolley cook them..cover them in gravy and fried onions and have them with mash and green beans.........mmmmmmmmmm!!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • I thought they looked quite nice frozen but am beginning to wonder now lol.

The OH is no longer allowed to go food shopping as the last time he went (when I had flu) he came back from Tesco's with a slab of beer, a pack of sausage rolls, 6 pk of crisps and some cream cakes  AND he'd spent £60.00!!!!!!!
