I doubt you will forget this one, it won't be over in a year or ten.

Buying a few cans won't save you from financial meltdown. How long do you think a few cans will last in the face of the mob

But according to a bloke down the pub who has a mate who reads the financial times, this recession has a very good chance of being K shaped. And that is very bad news indeed for all of us
I'm hopeful it'll just be a short Y 0 -
It's a bit worrying that there are people out there scouring the inter-google for these kinds of non-story's....
Who would actually think of checking out the Yonkers-Tribune just in case there was an interesting 'opinion' piece ????'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

I am surprised we have not had any links to the campbellwick green gazette yet.
Windy Miller recons we are going to go back to the days of milling our own flour.

Rather than a recession and, by implication, a place we aim to get back to 'normal' from - shouldn't we be thinking in terms of a re-alignment, because what we had was out of control and unsustainable?0

I found it in a comment on Pesto's blog but, unlike that commentator, I linked to the article itself and not to a blog about the article .....YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;

Then imagine the effects if everyone started pulling thousands from their bank accounts all at the same time - the very bank run you were worried about!
I agree banking is based largely on trust, but there's no smoke without fire. If there were no substance to banking fears, the rumours wouldn't have circulated so widely.
Did David Icke talking about the end of the world/lizard people etc make us all panic and buy purple shellsuits? No, because everyone knew it was twaddle.
In the case of banking rumours, there had been indications for a long time that things were not well (take the Icelandic banks for example). In fact even then the rumours took a long time to convert into people taking action.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -

I don't think anyone bar a few nutters does. However, it would seem to make sense to have a small stock of food (I keep enough for a month) to cope with temporary supply chain disruption, which could happen for any number of reasons.
Say a combination of strikes, bad weather and a fuel shortage all hit at the same time, the shops might be shut for several days while things got sorted out. If everybody had stocks, there would be no need for panic buying. Personally I see it as my civic duty to make reasonable preparations for this kind of thing so as not to be a burden on the authorities.
Also, it can be a hedge against inflation. This was fairly common practice in the 70s, I recall Mrs T talking about it.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
Good god people. Pull your heads in.
You've got roofs over your head. Full bellies. Packets of chocolate biscuits for a pound. TVs in your lounge and your bedrooms. DVD players. Takeaways. A car or two in your driveways. Most of you go on holiday once or twice a year, and i don't mean to margate, i mean to Greece or Thailand or Brazil.
And here you are talking about hoarding cans and fighting off the masses with blunderbusses.
That's the internet for you - full over underemployed nutters with vivid imaginations fuelled by cheap Dawn of the Dead dvds.

But what if they go up to £1.01p:)
Spot on I agree with all you have said I think a lot on here can put away their flint axes. We are not going to be eating mice anytime soon.0
