Smaller pack sizes but same price

I've noticed loads of pack size changes over the past few weeks at work, ( I work for one of the big supermarkets), but the price has not changed! Examples are - Fairy Liquid from 500ml to 450ml, loads of soap powders and capsules, Kelloggs portion pack cereals, all smaller packs. There are a few more which i cannot remember off the top of my head.

Totally agree, Rick. I'm having amazing free brain-training working out the cost per kg/litre when I go shopping. Another thing I noticed is that there seem to be far fewer baked beans in tins and much more sauce lately but unlike say tuna they don't give a 'drained weight'.

The only other alternative would be the same size packs increasing in price, so take your pick.

There was a poor harvest last year, thus the price and quantity of beans.

Personally, I'd rather the price went up and the pack size stayed the same. At least that way I'd know I was paying more. Reducing the pack size seems a bit under-hand and sneaky to me.

I noticed that Tesco Incredibly Fruity Yogurt 4 packs have reduced in size. I think the price has gone down a bit too but I bet that won't stay that way for long....

I have noticed it too especially on essentials and bars of chocolate - Mars Bars from 6 in a pack to 5 in a pack etc.

Same with cadburys mini rolls, just realised they are now in pcks of 5/10 when it used to be 12, I'm sure the chocolate bars are shrinking too or is that me getting bigger:p

  • The princes tuna value packs have changed too - used to be 4 cans in the pack, now there's 3 for the same price
