Removing transfer lettering off jacket?

Got a jacket that has got some transfer type lettering on it, I love the jacket but not to keen on the lettering and wanted to get rid of it but didn't know the best way to. It doesn't pick off and tried to lightly scrape it but that doesn't do anything either. Any suggestions? Was going to use some nail polish remover but didn't want to damage it. It's a cotton jacket.

Sorry, the only thing i can think of is ironing it off, however this will prob make a mess of your iron!!!! Mind you, scrape off the iron as soon as it starts sticking, and you might be ok!!!!

Cover the tranfer with muslin or paper towel to anything sticking. As you do when you press creases etc.

    :rotfl: :D *ahem* muslin?

Ok, back on topic.... I had a HiViz (yellow) jacket with a blue transfer on the back. I used thinners to get a lot of the lettering off but it left the jacket smeared with blue colour so I ended up having to put a patch over it.

If the jacket is dark and the transfer is small you could try thinners. Wear thick rubber gloves, wrap a cloth around the handle of a spoon or something, dip into thinners and rub over the surface of the patch. IF THE JACKET IS MADE FROM NYLON, POLYESTER OR ANY OTHER MANMADE FIBRE IT MAY MELT! My jacket was Goretex and the material is still intact, I wasn't bothered about making a mess of it as I could cover it anyway.
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • Thanks all, the letter is quite small and is grey so might give the thinners (I'm guesisng nail polish remover would be OK?) thing a whirl, or failing that the paper towel and iron trick. Maybe I should try and find a muslim and see if they could help! :D

    Lol :D....

By thinners I mean the stuff that's kept under lock and key in B&Q, the stuff that melts plastic (hence my advice about nylon) and the stuff that stinks your house out for days afterwards and is HIGHLY flammable, can burn your skin and would melt your eyes if it got in there..... It's scary stuff! :D;)
