Question re: informal payment arrangements

I split up with my ex early last year and since then have just been informally giving her an agreed amount each month, with little hassle, contact is very flexible and I can basically see my daughter any time I like outwith our agreed upon days

However, having heard about and read about other peoples problems, what would happen (I really do doubt it though) if we were to fall out or whatever, and she went to the CSA or something, and then claimed backdated payment? would I be protected in anyway being that I have always paid her our agreed amount? it hasnt been through a bank transfer or anything though, just give her cash..?

like I said, I wouldnt think this would ever happen but just to be on the safe side is there anything I can do to ensure this doesnt happen

She cannot back date a claim, the CSA only calculate an amount from when the PWC gets in contact with them. However it may be better for yourself if you actually have a paper trail stating you are giving child support.

If she did contact the CSA, they can only claim money from when the CSA first have contact with you. So, if the CSA ever contact you, that when the assessment starts, so you'd only need proof of payments after that date.

    Totally agree.

Cash payments should be fully documented and not just handed over
