Hi miseter, i think supermarkets are around £5-6 per hour. I currently work the weekends as a support worker in supported housing as i'm at uni training part time to become an Occupational therapist. Anyway this sort of work can pay much better (nearer the £10 per hour mark) particularly if you work for a private organisation such as a housing group like where i work. Agency work in this area is also better paid than supermarkets and you also have the added benefit of not being tied to any particular shifts. Do an internet search in the social work sector, looking for relief workers, support workers etc. Or maybe even ask at the jobcentre for a list of these sort of agencies.
hope this helps.0 -

Support Worker = someone that offers care and support to others within the community with needs, in order to promote independance within there homes or current enviroments.
There are several areas to give examples from and another that springs to mind is the staff in hospitals that come round doing your observations, making beds etc etc that are not nurses are called support workers.
Another is you could find support workers pushing a wheelchair along the road to the shops or helping someone with say learning disabilities get there weekly shopping or pensions. There are to many examples to give but there are just a few to help you.
Ps it can be a very rewarding Job if you are a caring type of person.
Hope that helps

Caring work isnt a bad idea
Have you thought about call-centres? Are there any near you? Some of them are not bad places to work at all in my experience, and sometimes they also pay commission
When I was at uni I was part time 2 evenings a week & one day saturday, and I usually came out with £200 ( nottaxed i was a student then) I suspect these days are over with BT, but mobile phones might be good for commission what with everyone fighting for business these days:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
My friend used to work for a call centre in London over the summer. He got over £10 per hour! It was a compnay selling things to businesses so it was pretty much cold calling, but not to residential lines.
You can get a fair bit of money for giving your body for pharmaceutical testing too.... Badly phrased. You spend a week or two taking a medicine that has been tested in the lab for approx 7 years. Sometimes they'll give you a cold virus deliberately to start with... the worst that might happen is you get the runs for a few days but you can get £k's for it. This is also quite popular with students.Lightbulb moment, Feb 2006

I have just started a weekend job at an estates agents, it's just Saturdays, but they do pay well (and its easy work!!). Recently I sent my CV to 40 local estate agents, and got about 5/6 call backs.
Otherwise there's bar work, healthclub work (I used to work on reception, so I could do my 9-5 during the day, and then work 6-10 or 7-11 at my 2nd job, also worked a couple of weekend shifts too), waitressing, babysitting, and supermarket work (although this tends to be lower paid!!). What do you do full time? Could you use your skills to bring in extra money part time?

Hi..
Good luck with your quest in finding a 2nd job. I did some bar work when I was younger as a 2nd job but was poorly paid (min wage prob now). What I found was that I was constantly tired and my quality of life suffered but if you need to earn money and you cannot increase the income of your main job then I guess that it is something you will have to do. In fact I was reading that more and more people do this these days..

I worked 2 jobs in order to pay off my debts, now I am working 2 jobs in order to save to go travelling. There's a difference between wanting to and having to. I have enough money each month not to, but because I want to save as much as I can for my travels I will - as it's only for the short term!!
I dont enjoy it though, but thinking of the £££££!! (this sat job brings in the equivalent of getting a £5K payrise at my main job, and for 23 weeks I can hack it!!0 -
