It looks nice and seems good value too.

Does anyone know if "seat post" suspension is worth having?

To be honest I'm not sure it does much good. The spring has to be pretty heavy duty to stop it bottoming out with a riders weight (which can vary a heck of a lot if you think about it), which then makes the idea of it absorbing too many bumps a bit rubbish.

I've heard good things about one called the thudbuster, but it works on a different principle and you get different bits for different weighted people. That post costs a little under £100 if I remember right...

I'd personally say I think its so minimal a difference as to not be worth paying attention too...

I like my wrath and paid to have hydro discs and love them. If they'd had the £400 disc version when I bought mine I would have bitten their hand off for it!

...I think the big question is how rough is this alternate route, does it require a mountain bike, would a hybrid with grippy tyres be sufficient.

That was what swung it in the end. I decided I'd be better of staying on the roads/paths. Plus I'm getting much fitter/quicker now.

So I bought a bike today. I purchased a 2006 TREK 7.5FX Hybrid. No suspension, reasonable equipment level (deore/LX). It feels about half the weight of my old bike.

True to being a moneysaver I managed to buy it off Ebay from a guy not too far away and it's only six weeks old, like new for just over half the shop price. It's not nicked either!

Having only ridden it once so far, my initial impressions are very favorable. The (V) brakes are phenomenol compared to my old ride.

The only problem I can see is securing the "fashionable" wheels which have quick releases.
