HELP!! The Car Shop Finance

Hello, I hope someone can assist me with this. We have a baby on the way due in May, and the car we currently have is simply too small for our needs now, we did buy this car on finance, and still owe some money on it. We went to the car shop fri to have a look around, just literally to look! Got talking to a sales man, he advised us if we were to buy a car this is what would happen etc etc. The cost they would offer to part x our car would not clear the finance on it. So we would have to sell our car privatly. It was getting late in the evening and they were pushing for a sale on a particular car, we didnt want to buy a car yet, as we were just looking, it was an Audi A3 up at £9,600. For starters thats way over what we wanted to pay on a car, yeah it looks nice, drives well, a lot newer than the one we have, lower milage etc. But with the monthly payments we would have to pay more than we are paying at the moment on finance which we really didnt want to do with us dropping a wage.

They kept pushing and pushing and I just kept telling them I didnt want to spend that much each month on finance on the car, and its much more than we anticipated spedning, I don't want to owe over 10 grand over 5 years. Noway. So to get them off our back we gave them a £450 desposit and they said they would get back to us if they could strike a deal with the finance companys to get us the finance for £200 a month (which I still didnt really want to pay). They told us the desposit is refundable if they can't get us finance (our credit rating isnt that great, so just to get them off our back we gave them a desposit hoping they would get back to us to tell us we had been refused as it always happens when we apply for credit). Ok sorry this is long! lol well we hadnt heard anythign all sat and starting to get worried as this £450 is OUR money and stupidly let them take it out of our bank account, but becaue we are stupid and soft and they were so pushy we stupidly put this despoit down.

Anyway we rang up later on sat to be told they had applied for credit at one company which had refused us, and were just waiting on another company, so they would get back to us mon. Firstly we are both at work on monday, and after much delibration last night about the car we have just decided that its too much, its out of our price range and with a baby on the way we need to be practical with our finances. Now does anyone know if we can just ring them up and say forget it we have decided against the car and get our £450 back? or is it theres to keep? They havent actually given us finance yet, as said above so where do we stand? I just feel so stupid for 'giving in' to them. We were the last ones in the show room and didnt leave while 9:30pm when it shuts at 8pm. And were dissapointed they wouldnt let us look at other cars they only brought out this Audi A3. Please help I'm so worried we might not get the cash back. Thank you for listening x

    Anyone? pretty please xx
  • they SHOULD to my knowledge give you the deposit back as i imagine in that frame of time nobody was rejected from buying that car because ud put a deposit on it but i really do know how these pushy so and so's are so i feel for you there i had the same thing many a time so nobody should flame you for that just give them a ring and see what they say then think from there you never know they might just be ok with the situation and give you the deposit back

my husband went thro a similar scenario last week much to my annoyance lol
basically The Car Shop couldnt do him a finance deal (thank god) and said they would arrange for a cheque to be sent to refund the £450 deposit - which is annoying as they are quick enough to take it from your debit card !!

If you have any problems with them returning the money, return to the car shop, just before they close, and refuse to leave until you have your money. I'm sure someone there will be able to resolve it for you.

Its worth remembering that the sales people have targets to hit and so will do anything to secure the deal. In future, before you go out looking for car, ensure you have your budget firmly in your head (never tell them what you are willing to pay) and never go over it. Whenever I go looking for a car, I think to myself that they are going to try to get as much money from me and so my plan is to stop them. Think of it as a bit of a game - one that you don't intend to lose.

Thanks for your replies! I think the Car Shop are still having difficulty in getting us the finance for this car - just as we thought they would! As we went in Friday and its now Tues - STILL NO NEWS!! We have rang them a couple of times, firstly they said they were still waiting to hear back from finance company. Fair enough, heard nothing yesterday, so rang them again, they said that the finance guy who is dealing with the sale was on the 'early' shift and had gone home. But that he would be in tomorrow, and they are still waiting for finance to come back. My husband demanded they just refund the deposit and forget it were not waiting all this time for them to contact us!!! They said they couldnt refund as yet, because they are still waiting for finance companies to come back to them with a deal.

How long does it take to find out whether we can get fiannce or not???? surely not this long!!! I feel like there stalling on purpose and have our money!!! Also the car they are trying to get us to buy has suddenly disapeared off their website, so does this mean they are putting it on hold for us or someone else has actually bought it??? Its so frustrating waiting around for an answer!!! I just want this to be over now, how long will they keep this going giving us excuses??? I don't really know what else I can do

Just to add,...... spoke to them again on the phone, we were told someone would ring us back, we waited ages, NO CALL, so we rang them again!!!! Only to be told all the finance directors had gone home and no-one could help us. WE DONT WANT TO SPEAK TO FINANCE DIRECTORS WE JUST WANT OUR MONEY BACK!!!! Argh! I'm not sure what to do everytime we ring they say they are waiting to hear back from another brokers, and they have no news, plus they wont give us a refund until all brokers have got back to them. How much longer are they going to keep us waiting? Are they hoping that we will just forget about our money and stop ringing??? erm no! ARGH!
