Hi all
I am going to make chilli con carne soon and going to add porridge oats this time to bulk it out as many tipsters on here have suggested! Just wondering do I have to cook the oats separatley first or just add straight out the bag?
Thanks

You can use them straight from the bag;)
Personally I'd add bulk with more veg -chopped peppers, sweetcorn, mushrooms, carrots or with lentils rather than oats.0 -
I use both extra veg and just a handful of oats....Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

Thanks! I am going to do both lol might need a few more saucepans to fit it all in0

I always add a tin of baked beans too, if that helps.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I agree with thriftlady, I would rather pad it out with extra veg, beans and lentils as oats can really swell and use a lot of liquid and you can end up with a sort of solid chilli flavoured porridge. If you do want to add oats it's best to add just a few at a time.
