what to do with endowments now..

..sorry if this seems like a really dumb question, but we replaced our endowments 3 years ago with a repayment mortgage, and were advised at the time to continue paying the endowments as savings ( 3 separate endowments, 1 taken out in '87 for 45k, 1 in '94 for 25k, 1 in '96 for 15 k)...is this still the right thing to be doing or we just chucking money away???thanks!!
