Take the slip showing it was cancelled to the bank, follow Nigellas advice and the bank have to put the money back into your account "Immediately". Then you need to inform the cable company you don't want the contract as the other poster rightly said they will believe you still have a contract until you tell them otherwise0

A debit card subscription is not the same as a direct debit.
Was it a debit card transaction?
Or did you set up a direct debit mandate through your bank?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Yeah i have cancelled DD via online banking quite a few times... and to date i havent had any problems apart from the companies sending me letters saying your payment scheme has been cancelled etc etc.... so i think u should get back to the bank as they are the main ones really0

So its not a direct debit then.
The bank have no ability to cancel a regular transcation on debit card. You need to deal with the cable company.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thats a POS (point of sale) not a Direct Debit!!! They can claim all they like if you have provided them with your details!! Unless you cancel your agreement with the company, as the bank can't do anything with a POS.0 -
You could also cancel your old debit card and order a new one, so they don't have your old card details on file.Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion

That is sometimes easier said than done IME. I've ended-up ringing dead numbers or being passed from pillar to post over the phone & had letters returned claiming that I was trying to contact the wrong people, or even that the company concerned no longer existed when trying to cancel a DD before.
In these circumstances, the bank's advice has always been to cancel it and wait for them to contact me - which happens soon enough IME.

Are you still receiving services from Setanta? If you haven't made a formal agreement with them to end your services, but have just cancelled your DD, they will chase you for payment and eventually pass your debt to a collections dept.
If you have cancelled your services with them but they continued to charge you then fair enough.0
