is it just me but i am receiving so many calls a day it is making my head spin. this is without exaggeration which i know we are all want to do on such occasions but i am being called by both halifax and lloyds. they start at 8 am 7 days a week dead on 8 saturdays and sundays and they finally end at 9pm. usually a frenzy of calls from 8.30 pm onwards. it makes no difference whether i answer them or not but for the last 7 days i have not been answering them as have been reduced to tears too many times by their bullying manner. does anyone else have so many calls? i am not counting the calls to my mobiles and the numerous text messages each day. i tried saying what has been suggested, that i would like to deal with this matter through the post but they just say they have every right to call me as many times as they want! worrying about the debts is bad enough but i now jump 4 foot every time the phine goes and its embarrasing if anyone is visiting. i would love to turn it off compleyely but being disabled i need to keep it on so i can call out and family can check on me. how do i get through these menacing calls?

Hi if you are with BT ask them about call barring or changing your number.
Tell them you are being harassedFind out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
Yeah if you tell BT you're getting strange calls maybe you're getting a lot of silent calls a lot they will likely offer you a service that is called choose to refuse. Basically anytime a person you dont want to talk to calls you can put in a PIN number and they will get a nice little message saying "the person you are calling does not want to be called by you" the next time they call.
This works even if you dont know the number of the person calling you.
I'm pretty sure BT will give it to you free for 3 months
I once had a debt collection agency calling me 20 times a day (their phone system was broke) so I used this service and after a couple of weeks one of their managers called me one his personal mobile phone to ask why I had barred their number. I explained about the 20 calls a day bit. said I considered it harrasement and asked him for an explanation. He obviously wasn't able to give one so I told him to go away and find an explanation and put it in writing along with an apology and only then would I consider making any payment to his debt collection agency. They never got back to me neither did the orignal creditor and now the debt is statute barred and I'm off the hook.
Nice eh?
Seriously though always tell debt collectors politely and firmly that you want everything in writing and then politely and firmlly end the call is my advice.
It avoids two potential problems the first is you dont get pressured into agreeing something you can't afford and the second is you dont get told "you agreed to this" when you haven't if you have it in writing. Just dont ignore the letters when they come in. :-)0 -
Hey sweetie, hugs to to you and yours!
You MUST put it in writing that you you don't want them to call you & to remove your number from all files they hold on you.
Contact BT. Tell them you are getting threatening phone calls from unknown numbers and explain how distressing it is. Ask them to change your number urgently. It is a pest but it will work.
Mobile companies usually charge to change the number, BUT tell them you are being harassed by withheld numbers and they will often "under the circumstances" change the number for free. If they won't change it for free, ask how much it is or just keep ignoring the calls & texts as you are.
I will try & find the link for the letters.
Although you need to sort out the creditors (one way or another) you DO NOT have to put up with the current situation.LBM:FEB 2008

Here is a link to a letter you can send to all your creditors from the wonderful Fermi. You need the one in post #5:

Only a suggestion - would it be possible to change your number and go ex-directory and also change your mobile number. (Maybe you have to pay for this, I don't know.) You could just let the people who you want to have your number have it. As I say, only a suggestion - maybe worth a try?:hello:0

Hiya,
You poor thing l know how you feel, we had this and l made an investment in my sanity and changed the number, it was heaven. lt meant we could deal with the debts with a clear head, as when they make so many calls as you say you cant think straight with all that head spinning!!0 -
thank you so much all of you. i have been in tears with it today and finally took phone off the hook!!! it never even occured to me to involve bt and is easy enough as so far both companies each use same number which i now recognise instantly. tomorrow morning when it starts again bright and early at 8am i will write down both the numbers and get bt to barr them as suggested. dont really want to change numbers as it would be nightmare with all the hospiatals, carers etc. for a short time anyway this should put a stop to it..........thanks everyone, will let you all know how many days of peace i manage lol0
