Mobile Broadband Speed?

Does anybody use mobile broadband and how fast is the connection. Our landline speed is nw less than 2mb and often disconnects. There is a deal with three.co.uk, mobile broadband £18.75 pm for existing customers with free laptop. If I took this deal and cancelled my other broadband I would be paying the same price (but would lose my inclusive calls which I dont really need anyway). Has anybody else considered this or think its a good idea?

I would be concerned about the monthly download limit and the costs if you go over!!! THEN the speed!

Most people using Mobile Broadband on our HSDPA network can expect a speed ranging from 0.6Mbps to 1.6Mbps , allowing you to download a three to four minute music track in 30 seconds or less.
at 3, we say "up to 2.8 Mbps", even though our HSDPA network has a theoretical maximum speed of 3.6 Mbps. But your distance from a mobile mast, trees and buildings between you and the mast, and the number of users in the area can all influence the speed you experience.

If you are a Pay Monthly customer and you go over your allowance, you can still access the internet at broadband speeds, however you will be charged 10p per MB of data used. Once you reach £50, outside of your inclusive allowance, you will get disconnected.

OK if it's disconnecting then there's a problem you need to address. Wether it's inside the house or outside on the BT line remains to be seen.
Make sure you have the BB plugged into the master socket not an extension (yes I know that can be a pain in the backside to do - but do it!) and make sure EVERY phoone socket thats in use has a microfilter in use - That includes caller display units, answer phones and (the most missed one) YOUR SKY BOX! Sorry about the capitals however sometimes you need to shout this one to some people.

The Mobile broadband... Be careful. For net surfing it's fine. For downloads including windows updates it can get expensive as you pay per MB over your agreed limit.

Personally I'd say get your home BroadBand fixed.

I've looked into those laptop deals before and found they're not as great as they look.

If you compare the price they ask you to pay with the laptop to the price the network charges without and multiply it by the legnth of the contracted term - I've found that you are normally paying a good to high price for the laptop. And, becuase the deals are often 24 months it's likley data charges/restrictions will decrease over that period while connections speeds increase - if you're stuck in the same deal it could make that laptop quite pricey!
