Just found out my son got into the primary school we applied to. Phew!

(only problem is I rang my friend and she didn't get what she wanted and is not happy with what she's been given - they only gave us one choice. )

Glad you got what you wanted :)

We are lucky here because we live near 3 primary schools (all literally less than 5 minutes walk) and they are all excellent. I've never heard of anyone not being able to get in here.

    Sorry for your friend :(

We live 5 mins walk from one school that is massively oversubscribed which we didn't even go for.... we would have got another nearer than the one we applied to but we liked this one more - and they're up to about 28 / 29 children. I've told my friend to give them a call on Monday to see if they have got a place for her daughter - it would be a bit of a drive but she moved out of a big town to avoid schools like the one she got. And it's a Catholic school (no offence to any catholics, but she aint one).

Yeah, she should definitely give it a try because children really do benefit from a good primary school later on. My eldest son is in secondary school now and most of the kids that are doing well there are the ones who came from his primary school.

Good luck to her and well done to you :T

Congrats! Glad you got the school you wanted. You should tell your friend to fight it out...maybe even stating that she will teach her child at home herself if it comes to that. I know of two people who did that & then they were accepted at their chosen school in the end.
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

I think she might have guessed she wouldn't get in - it only takes 14 children each year and she's a fair way from the school. She found out earlier in the week there were 19 children and 7 of those were siblings. It's the only school around that has an outstanding Ofsted and because it's community, a lot of people applied there rather than the nearest catholic school which is impossible to get into unless your child is baptised and you live in the parish.

There is no way she'd consider home schooling - she's just had her 3rd baby. I think she'd be happy if she can find a better school that is a bit of a drive - tho it has to be said, possibly just as far as where she applied.
