Thought you might enjoy this article from last night's London Evening Standard.
Got a good mortgage? Just don’t be so smug

    From another "smug" tracker owner:D;)

    Haha thanks. :)

That journalist seems a bit angry! Rates will stay low for a while and then go up again. If you're on a fixed rate when that happens you'll be pleased you were on one. I'm really trying to pay mine off so I'm covered for when this happens. These sort of things always even out in the end. :D
Mortgage overpayments since November 08: £32,500 - balance is now £81,200
On a Lifetime tracker +0.38% repayment mortgage
Hope to be Mortgage free by 2015! (or maybe 2014 if the rates stay low.....)

Great article which I could relate to.

I have some of mortgage on lifetime tracker of base + 0.18 & the rest on a 7 year fixed at 4.84 so I have a foot in both camps

Those mixed mortgages are a pretty good idea at the moment. Bit of safety and a bit taking advantage of the low rates.

Thanks. MrsC and I thought it was a good idea to join the board as there seemed to be a lot of encouragement around. When you're paying in money it's easy to feel like you're not getting anywhere, and it's great when someone reminds you you've achieved something :)

    Welcome,

This is our first month of overpaying, i find this board really does motivate both of us to stay on track.

Thats a fantastic rate you have there:j

Tbh one of reasons we started now was because of the low rates, if the rates go up then we are covered and if they don't then thats brilliant.

We are also planning a wedding this year, i am hoping to have a trunaround of about 8 weeks and a cost of no more than 2.5k. OH finishes his contract at the end of April so long as he gets another we may start the planning then. I don't want anything too flash and tbh i would be happy to walk in off the street its about our commitment to each other and not showing anyone what we could do, and now i will see it as that could be 1k, 2k etc... off the mortgage that!:rotfl: . I went to a wedding last year and it was absolutely fantastic, when they told me the cost i was amazed, just over 2k and you could not tell. It really did not seem cheap at all.

Good luck in your MF journey x
You can touch the dust but please don't write in it !

Would you like to speak to the man in charge, or the woman who knows whats happening?

I've just been sent my annual mortgage statement. It really highlighted how much interest I was paying (when the rates were high at least) and how quickly the amount owed starts to drop when you're overpaying.

It was also nice to see the 'official' version of the numbers I've been writing down. It's good when the lender confirms things :)

Just been sent a more detailed mortgage statement, which tells me a little bit more than the last one. If I carry on with the overpayments and the rates stay the same (I know they won't) it will be paid off by 2014. That's a year sooner than the original plan. I know it's a bit fake, but it's given us a bit of extra encouragement :)

Bit of an annoying day today. One of the bedroom radiators started leaking quite badly. Luckily, it's onto old carpet and I noticed it before any real damage happened. Also it's quite warm, so we can do without heating. Should be about £30 for a new radiator, and I'll fit it myself (hopefully) and avoid needing a plumber. So it could have been a lot worse (could have been a lot better too, and not broken in the first place). :)

It's frustrating when some sort of unexpected expense like this comes up, but I keep reminding myself that I knew I would need to make routine repairs on the house. I'm trying not to feel down about it.
