Funding for a degree

Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forums, so hope I am posting in the correct place! My problem is as follows:
I am looking to take an online or distance learning BA French & German. However, I am currently unemployed since end of 2008, and then I moved over to Egypt and currently am staying here.
I have spoken to the OU about funding for my degree, but they have said as I am not resident in the UK I do not qualify for funding. I do not have residency in Egypt, I am just taking a long break from the UK. I'm not claiming benefits of any kind and wonder is it possible for me to get help to fund a degree course without returning to the UK right now or having to attend a university overseas? Any ideas or points in the right direction would be much appreciated guys!
thanks for reading!

Welcome to MSE LZS100!
When do you intend to return to the UK? Do you have an address here?
Do you currently have any qualifications?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Hi dmg24
I haven't really set a date to return to the UK, although it most likely will not be until early next year at the very soonest. I have a UK correspondence address, my parents home. I have Business and Law A-Levels, from a few years ago though!0 -
Hi LZS,
Funding rules for OU and other HEIs are pretty clear - you have to be "settled" in the UK to receive taxpayers' money to cover your fees whatever your nationality.
But if you are planning on returning for, say, September 2009, this should make it easier for the HEIs to process you as a home student.
