    I think I read that it's about 20% max. of the monthly payment, which would be far to restrictive for me.

    Taken from the HSBC website:

    "Early Repayment Charge
    Early Repayment Charges apply to fixed or discount rate mortgages. You may increase your standard monthly payment by up to 20% without incurring an early repayment charge but will be liable to pay such a charge if you increase your standard monthly payment by more than 20%, or you repay any part of the mortgage over and above your standard monthly payment during the fixed or discount rate period."
