No H.R. dept.

Does anyone know if it's illegal for a large company not to have a H.R. Dept.? I can understand not having one if it's only a small concern but this particular firm has more than a 200 staff on its books.

It is not a legal requirement. It may be a sensible idea and quite possibly more efficient/cheaper than having someone do all the HR stuff as well as their "day job" but not mandatory.0

No, my last firm didn't have one until the company employed over 500 people, and even then the HR manager wasn't qualified or experienced. (Guess it's up to them who they hire, what job title they give them). The employment law stuff was handled by employment law solicitors who they employed on an as and when basis.0

haha I worked in a solicitors and the HR lady who was hired a couple of months before I ran (as far away as I could!) was good but the woman who was working there for around 20 years made my life a living hell. She is the reason I had depression and I a petrified of running into her in town-have had to hide in shops when I have seen her.
I am sure there must be someone who deals with the HR but not necessarily have a large department. If you need to contact them I would just write to the HR manager and surely it would get to the right person.
Sorry, hope that helps
