Could this be a price error? Fantastic deal though so be quick everyone. Great spot mattwms. I got the lens kit version for £380 the other week during the boots 2 day sale and quickly upgraded to the 18-70mm lens for only £127 off ebay. My lens is currently at £82 with 2 days left so I'm quids in. Everywhere I read seems to suggest the 18-70mm lens is so much more superior so this could be the way to go. It's much better built than the 18-55mm.0

The 'best' lens really depends on what you want to shoot.
Personally, I'm a 'one-lens' person and a big fan of Nikon's 28-200 AF-G lens. It's not the fastest lens in the world, but it's really handy for almost all situations and spends 95% of the time on my D50.
For wide-shots, I stick on a Nikon 12-24 AF-S and a Nikon 105mm Micro for close-up work.
I've read in many places that the 18-70 is a better lens than the 18-55. For me, 18-55 is a pretty restrictive range for a lens.
The 28-200 in my bag is soon to be replaced by the 18-200 AF-S VR if Nikon UK ever start actually shipping the lens to their distributors!!
If you want to see photos, go the galleries at Nikonians and see real photos from real lenses.

Look at my previous post of a lens recommendation.
For an SD card, I wouldn't go for anything less than 1GB (On a D50 set to Large+Fine JPEGs, you can get about 280 shots on a 1GB card, IIRC). The Sandisk Ultra II cards are now dirt cheap.

If only it were a Canon, I'd snap it up. I've got a drawer full of Canon EOS lenses which sadly won't work with the Nikon0

Nikkor 28-100mm f/3.5-5.6 AF - only £39.99 (+ £7.99 p&p) from a mail-order company called College Cameras Ltd. I don't know anything about this company so can't vouch for them.
Nikon's guide price is £179.99 - see link here . It's not the best lens you can buy (see user reviews here), but it must surely be the cheapest!0 -
I got the Nikkor 18-70mm that comes with the D70 for £127 off ebay and have put the 18-55mm up for sale. That was at £82 last night with one day to go. If I get another tenner for it then it will have only cost me £35 to upgrade. I've read dozens of reviews comparing the two lenses and the the 18-70mm seems to be a much better lens. It is certainly a better build.0
