Parking near RCP Edinburgh?

Hi all
I will be heading for the Commonwealth Pool next month for swimming competition. We will need to park during the week and weekend for long stretches. Does anyone know of any good safe places to park with minimum cost please?
Its been a few years since we were last in the capital and I cannot think of any good spots within walking distance.
Thanks in advance.

good bet to avoid trouble. How about train, and then bus to commie pool?

Some streets around cluny/grange are not restricted, but a bit of a walk! You're right on edge of zones, so look at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/internet/Transport/Parking/Download%20Leaflets_Maps/CEC_download_leaflets___maps. You will be competing with everyone else tho'.

Cameron Toll shopping: I assume you will be parking long time, so they may not like that. But worth trying.

There's a homebase a few minutes walk along the road.towards town. It doesn't have loads of parking spaces but I don't think it gets that busy so you could try there.

Home base carefully monitors their parking and how long people are there because of the amount of police officers from St Leonards that used to park there for their 10 hour shift.

Park and Ride is the best bet.

Where are you coming from and are you staying in Edinburgh or coming in every day ?

The RCP has a very large car park of its own!

Why dont you just park there?

You could park there, but from experience, it's often full very early and if it's a swim meet on, then it probably will be. I would have back up just in case.

    Aha. Thanks for the replies

Loadsacash - last time we visited the RCP it had a TINY carpark, but that was a few years ago. Glad to know it has expanded. Might use that as we will be very early, but then so will the hundreds of others all going to the massive swim meet!!

Wallacebob - the Park and ride from Sheriff hall sounds a good suggestion. That didnt exist when we used to live in Livingston.

HelenKA - dont think Homebase would be too happy, though the thought had gone through my mind. Same with Cameron Toll.

Looks like we will be there early morning 6.30am for a few hours and then back again about 4.30pm for few hours. we will be travelling in from Livingston by car, so perhaps the park and ride will be the best at least for the last visit of the day.

I like to have a back up plan, too many things go wrong if I make assumptions !

The RCP has two car parks one of them is tiny and the other is much larger.

Probably the best plan is for you to park there first thing in the morning and take a look.
