Long link suggestion

Long links mess up the format of the page and makes them difficult to read. If you don't know anything about programming, shortening a link is not that easy to do. How about having a sticky at the top of each forums for a bit that is titled something like "Very easy way to shorten links".

In the thread it would say something like:

Copy and paste the following into your post, changing the bits where necessary:

write a shorter description here eg. click here

---

Hopefully this will solve the problem.

I agree this would be very useful to have something like this on this site.

At present I always have to go to !!!!!!, 'cos I don't know any other way. :-/

There's way too many stickies as it is in my opinion.

I rarely read any of the 'instructions' stickies and i can't see people referring to it everytime they wanted to insert a link

The new forum s/w deals with this automaticaly. (possibly a hack but a worthy one )

There are already far too many stickes as S_G says - and people don't read them anyhow.

But the long URLs and the mess they make of the forum are a real pain. Roll on VBulletin !!

I agree with the stickies... they appear to be ego driven, where there should be one sticky thread with useful posts inside.
