just cancelled my Laura Ashley card as I never use it.
They tryed to keep me which I new they would try, then when I was going they said that GE capital bank have some very competitive loans and would I be intrested, can you believe it.
You cannot go anyway without people trying to sell you things.
I go into the bank and get asked if i would like a loan, insurance, mortgage and to upgrade my account and all I have done is go in and pay some money.
I go to the post office the other day to send a parcel and the lady behind the counter want me to apply for a credit card(she even asked the lady infront of me who was about 80  )
Then on my way out there is two blokes trying to push the post offices lind line phone on you.
Go into tescos and its the same,is there anyway you can go without people not trying to sell you things.
I understand that its your own choice to get yourselve credit(not that I will get anything else) but, surely it should be your choice and not on impulse or when some people can't say no when someones giving them the hard sell.
There got my rant over with.

Good for you!
Laura Ashley stuff is well overpriced anyway, Ok, so it looks good if you live in Good Housekeeping magazine!!
I hate this constant barage of people asking you if you want credit. The staff are probably on commission for every new card that is applied for.
You could try cutting the Laura Ashley card to pieces and returning it to Head Office with a letter explaining the above rant.

I totally agree, the other day in Somerfield, right in the store by the meat section a young man asked me if I wanted to help WWF by opening an MBNA card that I 'don't have to actually use'!!!, just open it to give a charity donation, with a choice of animals on the card!! whooppee!!! I told him witheringly that I only deal in cash. Also in New Look 'would you like to save up to 50% on your purchase today by opening an account?' and Abbey National, where I've got a small cash account, 'can we give you a mortgage quote?' It drives me up the bloody wall, it's a pain in the proverbial. :mad:A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Good on you. You defeated the lure of even more credit! and saw straight through them, thats surely when you know the lightbulb is still on0

Perhaps Martin could come up with a MSE code phrase that ALL OF US say when we are offered credit like this???
The message might start to get through if they hear the exact same wording again and again

PS I just PM'd Martin with this idea! It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.

Phoned &More today as hubby's 0% finishes next month.
Won't extend 0% deal but would offer us a loan at 6.4% to clear the card. Lightbulb still being on I ask if you can make overpayments
Yes comes the reply but it won't affect the total amount that you pay back.
So what's the point of that I ask
Well you can clear the loan early
Yes but if the loan costs me the same whether I take 2 years or 1 year to pay it off where's the incentive to pay it back early?
Well you wouldn't have the debt for as long would you.

You know the thing that makes me laugh is that the people that sell these things must think they are really good ideas.
Mountain of debt, why wouldn't you want another loan he who sells it says its a good thing it must be LOL these people drive me mad and make me mad, but I'm also starting to laugh at there wonderful lines they come out with when you question there so called 'good deals' Thanks Mountain of Debt the next time i'm offered something i'm going to stump them like you did.cc debt ( end dec 05) 6485
