Ruby, a quick thought.... I could be barking up the wrong tree completly!!
I see no point in you quitting your course, you've put your heart and soul into it and with such a short time to go it would be mad to quit. Are there any of the dental labs in your area who would take you on as a work experience student? It may be voluntary to start with but I took on a student who wanted to work for free last summer (nothing to do with teeth!) and she has turned out to be a god send, working for me a late evening and a Saturday. I would be lost without her!
The students union place is sometimes a good place to go for support, although i do agree with the others that you need to make time for your health and well being.
What about doing some of the online surveys to earn a bit extra? You could fit that in between studies. I think you should do something that will help you find "Ruby" again as she's been studing so hard she's gone missing - you need to find something that will make you feel good about yourself again - not that it will solve the financial situation but it will help you feel stronger to address it.
i'm thinking of you

I just did that the other day, I contacted a lab near me to see if they wanted anyone and they've asked me to send my CV which I'm doing, we'll see how that goes !
What is a students' union ? I hear about them all the time but with them being a university thing (and me not !) it's not anything I've ever really paid attention to.
Are the online surveys that claim to pay, a real thing ? Because I get emails all the time from companies saying, 'Earn £2 for doing this survey' but I always think it might be a scam and so I don't sign up. Do you actually see the money ?
That's the trouble, whenever I get a letter like I did today, or think about the debts, I feel so bad that I then go and 'window shop', except it's not because I do buy things, or I order a takeaway or whatever to feel better, and then later I'll know I shouldn't have and have just made the problem worse. I know I need to stop, but I never do !0 -
Hello - If you make greetings cards, eBay is not the best place to sell them, as lots of people do this. Do you have any local shops you can sell to ? A friend of mine did this and she made loads ( and here were not that great !). Perhaps take a few samples round some local shops and see if anyone wants to stock them - even if it is on a sale or return basis.

I'm new to the surveys thing but i have done 2 and they seem to bank points which are converted into vouchers or cash. Time will tell.
There was me thinking you kept cats or dogs! Is there a pet shop near you who specialise in exotic pets? They may be glad of someone with a bit of knowledge to advise people as it seems to be a relatively unknown area (i worked for a vets practice before i had my own business and we only ever had 1 vet who we left "strange" pets to!)
the £10 you spend coming home from your job is surely taking up the bulk of your wages. I know thats late at night but that doesn't seem cost effective.
As for the takeaway - i discovered a new thing.... my mother in law bought me Jamie Oliver's cook book for christmas. I can cook from it for me & himself, evening meals and enough left over for lunches for £35 per week - thats buying meat from the butcher too, not the supermarket. Jamie's curries are the nicest i've ever tasted!
Good luck with the CV

Also, make sure you sign up for surveys etc.
I couldn't beleive it when I looked at one survey site the other day and I had earned a £5 amazon voucher and I'd only done about 5 surveys
edit - sorry, just seen that everyone else has mentioned surveys, so I'm a bit late with that - I've never done any for money, but I've always received the vouchers[STRIKE]DFW Nerd number 729[/STRIKE]Debt Free & Proud0 -

Haha, mine aren't great either, I've not long been doing them. I have a list right in front of me of local shops I intended to ask if they wanted to stock my cards but didn't want to go in asking when I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't know whether to sell them to the shop (and no idea how much for), and let them sell them, or to see if they want to just stock them and I earn money based on whether they sell or not ? I know nothing about business !I'm new to the surveys thing but i have done 2 and they seem to bank points which are converted into vouchers or cash. Time will tell.

Oh yes, and I'd love to work in the pet shop but I've asked a few times, the manager always seems really interested, asks about my work history etc., and then doesn't get back to me, and completely ignores me when I'm in the shop ! Strange. Every few months I call the one at the other side of town to see if they want anyone but so far they haven't.
It's quite rare that I get a takeaway now, I am slowly getting out of that habit. The problem is, when I'm home, I don't come out of my bedroom because I don't feel welcome and don't want to remind my grandad's brother that I'm here, so I just avoid them. I come out when they go to bed, but if I make any noise at all (God forbid he hears the clatter of a spoon against a saucepan), he complains to my nana about it the next day, so I've just started having cereal if I'm hungry. If I'm feeling really daring I'll make pasta but it's usually cereal or snacky things just to get rid of the 'ooh I really fancy a takeaway' feeling. Also, make sure you sign up for surveys etc.

It's ok, I was after knowing if they're valid things anyway, I didn't know if you just did surveys being promised money or vouchers and never actually seeing it. Does anyone know what the best survey sites are ?0 -
Also have you tried Quidco? It's a cashback site, but there are daily clicks, which you can do. If you go through Quidco to Kelkoo and High Street Web you can earn up to 9p a day, it's not much but it all adds up. There are other things on there, like getting paid for completing free trials, like Lovefilm and Experian Credit report. It takes a while to get paid the cashback, but it's worth it in the end. This past year I've received about £50.0

Ruby,
If you are a registered student at the university you probably are signed up as a member of the students union. Do you have a card that entitles you to student discount?
They will have hardship and other counsellors you can go to for help and advice.
Please, please talk to your tutor as there is no way you can be denied time off for doctor's appointments and counselling.
Sounds like you do need a spending dairy.
Well done on facing up to all this!

Have a look at the make £10 a day thread and the 'up your income' board.0

You can sign up for mystery shopping at cybershop, they're always sending me emails but I never have time to reply.
Also if you spend a lot of time in Harrogate I will be interviewing for bar staff/waiting staff but not for another month or two. The place needs fumigating! Or I'm in just outside of wetherby now (west yorks), and may possibly need a new staff member but I'm not sure how everything is set out up here, I've only been here 2 weeks!0 -

Unfortunately not, Pip. My course is run and funded by the NHS and not the university. The Dental Institute where I do my course is affiliated with the university with it being a teaching hospital, but we don't get the same benefits and things available to us that other students do.
You would think, but I had a lot of time off in our first year due to my illness, and when I came back to college, I'd say to my head tutor that I didn't have time for appointments, and she'd tell me that was stupid and I'll only end up having more time off if I don't go get the medication, but then when I do get an appointment, I'm shouted at for taking time off college, I just can't win !
I'll have a look, thanks for the suggestion !You can sign up for mystery shopping at cybershop, they're always sending me emails but I never have time to reply.

Which places would it be working at ? I'm definitely interested, I live on the bus route to Wetherby town centre as well, I can give you my contact details if you'd be interested in hiring me for a weekend or evening job ?0
