Looking for a bit of guidance on what to buy someone as an engagement present when you only know one half of the couple getting engaged. Also I'm not particularly close to the girl getting engaged, but she is in my circle of friends.
My budget is about £10/15

When I got engaged I received a couple of lovely presents, even though we never had a party or anything.
I would normally only buy a card if I was not particularly close to the couple who had got engaged.
Anyway...ideas for you.
Next do a pack of 4 lovely wine glasses - they are about £15. We received these from a friend of my Oh's and we were really pleased with them.
Another friend bought us a lovely vase
Apart from that though it was mainly cards and bottles of wine, cava etc.
I wouldn't go overboard if they are not that close!
Hope this helps

I never received a single engagement present and I wasn't expecting any either. I don't expect people to buy for both engagement and wedding!
If I did I would be happy to get a bottle of bubbly and a card.

We got lots of cards and drink! But i didn't expect or want anything just for people to turn up to our engagement drinks, which they did!0

how about a really nice photo frame for a pic of the 2 of them?
Again, I never expected anything when I got engaged, didn't even bother with drinks etc!

we didn't have an engagement "do" at all, we got a lot of cards with nice words in which I was really touched by, especially from old friends of my parents etc. I have kept them all! Got a few bottles of bubbly from our parents, my godmother, and friends who came over to our flat immediately on hearing the news. It was very indulgent to have so much champagne!!
personally if they are having a "do", I would bring bubbly or a nice box of chocolates (can you bring alcohol if the do is in a pub?!). If they aren't having any kind of official celebration then I'd personally just send a card with some nice words in.0 -
