How long can/will interest rates stay this low?

    Until we end up with rampant inflation.

    It's only because the economy is in such a mess is this not happening now. However I fear the next ugly episode as the recession bottoms out will be the re-re-valuing of the £ which will cause rampant inflation and sky high interest rates.

    Nobody really has any idea, could be 12 months or 10 years, however if inflation starts to rear it's head, and after todays announcement, it's as sure as eggs are eggs, then they will on the up.

    I have a feeling that the Gov't/BoE will quietly forget trying to control inflation with higher interest rates and interest rates will stay low despite inflation increasing to 5 to 10%. It will screw savers but be deemed necessary to protect an economy in recession/depression.

    Yes indeed, although as someone with no debt I am looking at putting some more money into property in the belief that inflation/ low returns on savings and investments will at some stage turn that market upwards.

    I thought climate change was her fault too !

    If in doubt blame Maggie seems to be the mantra of the Labour apologists. Obviously the dire pickle we are is nothing whatsoever to do with Flash Gordon... :rotfl:
