problems at work

hi i was hoping i could get some advice with serious issues i am having at work.
I work part time abot 24 hours a week but my contract is only for 8 hours. to cut a long story short i contacted head office to query what holidays i was entitled to as i only get 4.8 x 8hrs at the minute.
Head office came back to me and said that i was correct and i was entitled to holidays based on the last 12 weeks average, and they said i had 2 weeks remaining (well 8 days) and that i could book the hols off (they have to be taken by end of march) this effects most people in store as we are nearly all on 8 hour contracts and work a lot more hours.
when i went to work the next day my manager said to me he would only allow me to take 4 days holiday and he would pay me for the other 4 days, this is not what i wanted as i have not had a week off since last july!! he also said that i dont realise how much trouble i have caused and i would find out why in due course.
Now yesterday i went to work been there a couple of hours when an employee came to me and said i better go look on the notice board.
A big notice had gone up and it basically said "because a certain member of staff has enquired about holidays you will now all 1 week out of 4 only work your contracted hours"
People are loosing 20-30 hours a month and he has made it perfectly clear it is my fault. my name is not on it but everyone knew i was asking about the holiday entitlement!
i rang head office who were horrified they said i CAN take my full 8 days off and they are going to contact my manager about the notice. i am so scared about going to work today, can anyone give me any advice??
thanks.

What a horrible situation.
Paid holiday is a legal right. A quick Google for statutory holiday will give all the details. Whilst I'm sure your colleagues will not be happy they must see that it is the firm that is at fault, not you.
I'm sure people more expert than me will offer some advice shortly.
If head office are as concerned as you say maybe your manager's days are numbered!0 -
Are you unionised?'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport. That's how British I am' Constantine-Simms. :T

You must take a photocopy of the notice and also make a note of the time, date, and content of the conversations you have had both with this boss and head office and any you have subsequently.
He is obviously upset about the issues you have (quite rightly) brought up and the hassle they will cause him. If he chooses to either victimise you because of it or find a way to discipline you or get rid of you for a spurious reason, then it is imperative that you have evidence of what has happened to protect yourself.

hi no we are not unionised
it is a v large company i work for and they should have known better!
All my boss has really said to me today is people will be !!!!ed with me get used to it!0 -
In that case even more reason to make notes of everything, a disgruntled colleague who might end up on losing out on wages could also try and stitch you up!

Tell anyone who complains to read the notice as " because we do not want to give you your legal entitlement we will not longer offer extra hours".0

hi little update.
I am getting my holidays starting next week so thats something!
The notice is still up at work my manager said he has not put my name on it so it is fine!
He also said he is going to employ more people on 8 hour contracts so he only has to give minimum hokidays. He said i should be grateful i have a job, and that if other people are annoyed with me i just have to suck it up!!!
He has also said that the 1 week in 4 only getting contracted hours will not effect everyone as he cant afford for some people to be off (in certain departments) can he do this? in other words it is mainly affecting my department and one other.
I am stunned that a company the size of the one i work for have not noticed this before, i am talking over 250 branches accross the company! and our branch is the only one in the country doing this with hours. I think e thinks that if he does it this way we will then be working iregular hours and then we wont be entitled to the holiday is this right?
thanks0 -
Personally I would take a photo of the offending notice & take notes of events as previously mentioned. Then I would make an appointment to see someone from HR at Head Office and if necessary take forward a grievance against your Manager. If you let him get away with this treatment now, who knows what he might do in the future. Thanks to all who post comps :A :T0

I ditto what Rach29 and everyone else has said. Take photos and keep a diary of everything said not matter how small you think it is. Everything will count. Good luck xx0/2013
