Applying for a morgage

Hi all I wonder if anyone can help me. Me and my partner want to buy a house. I have a normal bank account and credit cards but my boyfriend doesn't he just has a building society account and no credit cards is this going to be a problem? Or will it be ok because I have a credit card and pay all of mine off every month. Neither of us have any debts.

We have tried to apply for a credit card for him but have been refused on 2 sites due to credit score. I hope by him not being able to get a credit card it does affect us getting a morgage. Anyones help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It could be that your bf does not have enough credit score.

However scoring for mortgages is different, and so it may not be an issue.

Are you both on the voters roll? That helps to improve your score

Whatever you do I would suggest going via a whole of market adviser, as you do not want to go down the high street applying and getting declined for mortgages, as all those credit searches would harm both your credit files.

  • Thanks for your response herbiesjp when you say voters roll do you mean the election roll? Because if so we should be is there anyway I can find out if we are or not?
