qualification equivalents

Does anyone know where I can find out about examination equivalents. I've been to a recruitment agency who told me because I didn't have 5 GCSE' there are jobs i couldn't even apply for!! I did O levels and CSE's as well as numerous RSA's (stages 1,2 3), Pitman examinations, etc. I was just wondering if there is a website where I could find out what these are in GCSE's - especially the RSA's. Any help would be gratefully received!

Insisting on GSCEs and not accepting the exams that preceeded them like O-levels is illegal age discrimination.

o levels and the cse's aren't really the problem, its the RSA qualifications that they seem to be disregarding. When I did them it was generally thought that RSA II was the same as an O Level. I just wanted to see if there is a website or someone who knows for a fact.

I do think Bristol Pilot has a point - and I do despair that recruitment agencies have people who can't demonstrate any initiative "if it's not on the list....!"

This website gives you the qualifications framework

    http://www.tda.gov.uk/support/cdf/planner_guidance/qualification_levels/nqf_levels.aspx

You could ring the qualifications authority to check but it looks as if RSA would be classed at Level 2 and equivalent to GCSE passes as you say.

I've just found that - but it strangely seems to leave 'O' Levels off! I always understood 5 x O Level passes = NVQ2, but don't know for less, i'm afraid.

    Your RSAs are there!

A BTEC National Diploma is a level 3 qualification and equivalent to 3 A levels.

  • Thanks a million jfdi. Although I'm now slightly depressed to be finding my exams on an 'Older Workers' site!!! (I did the last year of O levels so I'm not that old!)

My thoughts exactly! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I found ( some years ago!) it was even worse explaining to Recruiters that I had certificates for passing 11 O Levels - & the ACE grades were the top 3 pass marks (the ONLY pass marks!) for the 'London Examination Board'. It appears these GCSEs get certificates for every grade! I even found my old job application in my file for the job I'm in now & they'd only ticked the As & Cs (it was a 5 O level job) - totally ignoring the Es & the CSEs!!!!

Gawd - I feel SOOOOOOOOOOO old!
