Know if this is any good?

I had a hand held mixer/blender but it flashes when it is switched on so I think it is time for a new one.  I want one which is not hand held and will last a long time.  My kitchen isn't that big so I want something that will do everything that I need done in the kitchen!  I found this one and it is expensive but is it any good or has anyone got any other suggestions?   ::)

Kenwood have a good reputation. I had one, secondhand, lasted well but eventually the bearings went, smell of smoke, so we went back to a more lightweight one. Preferred the old one. But they do take a lot of space in a small kitchen.

Do you think this one would be any good or do you think it is too complicated? ;)

looks a bit like a kenwood chef.
Mine is a lowly food processor but it is Kenwood.I had my last one for 10 years and so when it finally died I went straight out and bought another one.
I prefer the kind I have as it is easy to wash and you can see the food throught the sides of the bowl.
Also when I need spares ,I can write to kenwood and get them cheaper than going through an electrical retailer.

I can't think of there being anything wrong with it being a Kenwood chef, but they are big and they are heavy. You can get the bits to add on to do everything - this one has a liquidiser goblet sat on top, mine had a mincer, and I have seen juicers and things like that as well - graters and coffee grinders, maybe?

You say you have a small kitchen, so unless you have somewhere you can leave this out you may find it stays in the cupboard because it is just too much hassle to get it out, in which case you would be better off with smaller hand-held bits and pieces.

Since mine blew up - but I stress it was second hand and quite old - I have replaced it with a smaller mixer which is fine for most things, but not up to kneading bread, for example. The only attachment I had was a mincer, and that was more trouble than it was worth! Getting it out, putting it together, mincing - and then all that nasty fiddly washing up!

I have a food processor as well, but TBH I usually use a hand-held stick thing when I make soup. It is just as quick and less messy.

But I am not a gourmet cook. If you cook a lot your views may be different.

    I've been Money Tipped!
This machine is great if you really enjoy your cooking/preparing food/baking etc etc.  Having said that, things these days aren't built to last, everything seems to be pretty flimsy.  I found the blades/beaters etc got chipped up a bit and replacements were quite expensive.  Had the mincer, slicer, blender and all the paddles/beaters etc.  Great machine, just have to be careful with it.  The sausage maker/kebbe maker is great too, a bit fiddly but if you have the time, it's great.  Just be careful not to drop the pieces at all.  I happened to drop the sausage maker attachment onto a quarry tile floor and it chipped a big chunk out of it.  Don't use metal utensils on the beaters/hooks etc either as they carve up the edges and they end up with little nicks all over them.  Worth the money if you are passionate about your cooking/baking etc.

It also takes up a heck of a lot of space.  My exe's kitchen was ginormous and it sat on the counter top all the time so unless you have the space to leave it out, get something a bit more compact.  I have a little Kenwood food processor which copes with amounts adequately for myself and my boys.  The big Kenwood I did use was great when cooking for an army, i.e. 3 adults and 5 kids.

I have a little thing like this and it is fine for me and I love baking and cooking.  Gets used daily and it's easy to put together, clean etc and doesn't take up too much space, my kitchen is tiny and it is fine to leave out on the counter.

Thanks for the responses! Spoke to my sister and her hubby about it as they are both head cooks/chefs and they suggested that a smaller one would be better for me as I might use it once a month, sometimes once a week! ::) Now looking for a smaller one which hopefully will cost less too! Thanks for the suggestion but I would prefer variable speeds, SORRY! :-[ :D
