Not a good sign. Worse to come probably.
Food prices surge 9% despite inflation fall
Shoppers are being hit by a surge in the cost of groceries despite falls in the headline rate of inflation, according to figures released today.
Shop price inflation rose last month because of the increasing cost of meat, fresh produce and tinned goods, with overall prices up at an annual rate of 9 per cent, from 7.5 per cent in January.
Not a good sign. Worse to come probably.

The more special offers in the supermarket - the more the weekly bill seems to come to. I canna understand it.0

I saw green shoots in spar today, packet of walkers crisps, 15p.
They were even salt and vinegar, so even the packet was green. I'm optimistic this is a sign!
However, I do blame America for my 500ml bottle of coke costing 1.190 -
I can foresee another Jamie Oliver show coming...
"this week Jamie shows you how to trudge round the supermarket; return home; scrape the gathered organic crap from the bottom of your shoes; and make a nice tasty stew with it".
I'll set the V+.0 -
There was a retail analyst on the radio earlier saying that whilst 9% was a good headline it wasn't realistic. With so many shoppers now buying on deals (and more deeper deals to choose from) and spreading themselves more in terms of brands, that actual rises would be much less.
He also made the point that the recession has been a bonanza for farmers - the competitive pound has meant a huge increase in exports which has pushed farm gate prices up 40%.0 -

How exactly is 9% a "good headline"?0 -
It's funny you should mention inflation wooky, I bought a new laptop 6 months ago, pretty good spec for £600, last week my sister asked me to go with her to try and find a new one, as hers had broke.
Now heres me thinking, mmmm 6 months has passed, she should be able to find a better spec'ed machine than mine for £600, eerrrrrrr, NO, in fact it was worse than that, a machine with a similar spec to mine was £750 !!!!! !!!!!! !!
Inflation is definately here in a lot of consumer goods, and in my opinion it's going to get a whole lot worse when Clown gives the QE order.0 -

The price of technology goods is shooting up.
It's most noticeable in consumables, where you are buying the same thing month in month out. Toner cartridges for example, and parts, have shot up, so has paper etc.
All to do with the exchange rate.0 -

If we are all fatter does that not mean we can stop eating for a few months? Surely that is a great thing for saving cash. When the bloody hell is nelly coming back?0
