Photo Scanning Service

I've just found a huuuuuge box of photos that have been hiding in a cupboard for years, and want to get them scanned. I don't have the time or inclination to do it myself, and have been looking on google for a service to do it for me.
The cheapest I have found so far is https://www.scan-van.co.uk who do it for 9p/print. I reckon I have at least 1,000 photos to scan.
Has anyone had any experience of this or similar services? Has anyone heard of scan van? Does anyone know anywhere cheaper?
cheers

Might be better to take a day off! We have a scanner with an automatic feed for photos and it has been a god send, and takes about a quarter of the time it takes to do them individually. I now have every photo in the house loaded onto a PMP!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Forgive my ignorance but what is a PMP, cos if it holds all your photos then I want one as I have hundreds that could do with being stored somewhere. If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................

It's a portable media player - such as the 100GB Archos I have. It is a little out of date now as I bought it about 3 years ago, but I went for my one because it has a larger screen than most.
Google for portable media players and quite a few will come up.
I have about 5000 photos on mine, along with several hours of home video. And it still has loads of space left on the drive! Now if any relatives ask if we can bring down some photos and they cant remember which ones, we just say it's OK, we'll bring the lot! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
That sounds ideal. Will have to check them out.If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................

If all else fails, you could post them to me and I'll scan them for you and put them onto CD, I've not got a lot else to be doing at the moment since being made redundant, well, apart from looking for jobs...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Jane - may I ask which scanner you have please?0

It's an HP Scanjet 5530 photosmart scanner. Have to admit it is a bit on the large side but we bought it specifically to scan the pictures in. It took me about a week in my spare time to scan about 3-4000 of them. Luckily we're all digital now! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

mwilletts - I have at least 38 photo albums filled with photos. If I was to post them it would cost me a fortune. Would probably be cheaper to buy one of the portable media players that the OP was talking about. Thank you very much for your offer of help though, ery kind thought. Good luck with the job hunting. If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................
