As I said...no-one in public sector is paid minimum wage but millions in private sector are. And the latter don't get generous pensions either.

Given that the minimum wage is £5.73, and in 30 seconds I could find a public sector job paying £5.92, I'm sure some people in the public sector earn 19p an hour less than that.
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

Oh, we need this link here too, do we?

Workers at Scotland's biggest local authority, Glasgow City Council, will be paid a new minimum wage of £7 an hour, in a drive to tackle low pay.....

"There are up to 80,000 workers in Glasgow earning less than £7 an hour.

Come on treliac - keep up with things. £7/hour for LG workers is history

nb - bet those on £7.01/ph are pretty hacked off.

How galling for you. Before you know it, it'll be nationwide.

Just one question - who's paying for it?

No new jobs out there in real world - tens of thousands losing them, tens of thousands on short time and/or pay cuts. Tax revenues are going through the floor - who's going to bale out the bankrupt Bank of Clown ?

Face it, in the not too distant future, serious questions are going to be asked about our level of public expenditure.

Till then, dip your bread in but you know it ain't gonna last too much longer.

I'll tell you what, offer me (and probably the rest of the public sector) a 20% employers contribution DC scheme and I'll bite your arm off. It'll be easy to sell to the private sector as the cost of public sector pensions as been more than halved. Looks like a win-win to me:rolleyes:.
How would you feel if you were offered 7%, take it or leave it?

How would you feel if your employer said "I'm not paying anything towards your pension - that's your problem".

The same as anyone who's taken a ~13% pay cut
