    Either:
They meant details of your redundancy, ie P45 & letter of redundancy and/or
If some of your redundancy pay is in lieu of notice/gardening leave rather than a redundancy payment I think you can't get JSA as you're still being paid.

You can apply for Concil Tax Benefit at the same time as Job Seekers Allowance. As far as I know the criteria to qualify for this is the same as for JSA. You may also be able to claim for Housing benefit as well, and a Tax rebate from the Inland revenue.

As I said, go through Numpty Monkey's thread and trawl through each of the websites.

Although my job is safe, my brother and my son are both being made redundant, hence the reason for my search for info.

Council Tax Benefit and LHA(HB) are means tested and will be affected by having £12,000 of savings.

If you are applying for contributions based JSA do you have to dislcose details of your savings or of your OH's income?

If the question is being asked - then you have to answer truthfully.

Even if your partner is working - and you have savings, you are entitled to JSA contribution based. This would change after 6 months - in which case it's income based - therefore all income is taken into account.

Not happy if that is the case - my OH is being made redundant and he doesn't know the details of my savings nor do I want him to. Surely as he has paid his NI contributions for the past 30 years, my savings and income shouldn't make any difference to his contributions based JSA.

I had jobseekers interview today ( lost my job last friday )
They asked me what DH earned but only wanted to know if I have savings of more than £16000. They didnt ask anything about him other than what he earned.
  • Looking for someone to shed some light here! My husband was made redundant on 16 Jan, applied for Job Seeker's Allowance (contributions based). Had a garbled letter today saying not entitled to it as 'he has more money coming in than you need to live on' - he has occupational pension of just over £16000 pa (but we have plenty of outgoings)! I thought JSA wasn't means tested at all for 1st 6 months?

It's not means tested, but unfortunately is reduced pound for pound if you are receiving an occupational pension which exceeds £50 per week. So your husbands pension will mean that his contributiuon based JSA is reduced to zero.
  • Thank you - I thought (hoped) they had made a mistake! Good job the tomato seeds are starting to sprout! Let's hope the mortgage company is sympathetic - 5.69% fixed rate! (We do have some savings from previous redundancy but have started on those already). I'm sure there are lots of other people worse off though:eek:
