The prescription charge usually goes up on the 1st April, bad choice of date! So if you are thinking of getting a prepayment card do it to start on the 31st March and order you next lot of pills to collect at the beginning of April.0

I see your point, but I wouldn't bother waiting. The OP is presumably going to be on meds for the rest of her life, so should be buying annual prepayment certificates until she is 59 (at which point she should get quarterly certificates until she reaches 60 and get age exemption).hardpressed wrote: »The prescription charge usually goes up on the 1st April, bad choice of date! It's true that people with certain medical conditions get free medicine - I have no idea if you fit anywhere on that list.
What I do know, is that £250 a year for meds is ridiculous. Tbh, if you're picking up your meds regularly from the same pharmacy and no one has pointed out that you're spending too much, I think it's a bit irresponsible of them.
I have to get medication regularly too, and since leaving school, I've always bought a prescription prepayment certificate. Works out much cheaper.
If you're in Scotland, a 4 month PPC costs £17 and a yearly one costs £48. If you're in England, a 3 month one costs £28 and a yearly one costs £103. Worth bearing in mind that if you buy a PPC in Scotland, it's cheaper, but valid in England also.0 -
Thank you so much for all the responses. I guess the consensus is that I should be looking into a PPC. I also wondered why my pharmacy hadn't pointed it out-but then again...0

Hi polkadot - sorry you are't doing so well. We've missed you on the other forum.
I too have an annual prepayment cert as I am on oodles of meds. It's a wierd system why some conditions you get them for free, like thryoid but not others, when if I wasn't on my meds I would be literally crippled
. I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
