Hi,
I have recently remortgaged form halifax to first direct. Do i need some kind of closure statment/letter from halifax saying that my mortgage is closed with them or something a similar?

It's worth an ask, but you may receive something in due course when they have closed the file after processing all the paperwork.
The other thing you can do is check the record on the Land Registry. Give it a few weeks but 1st Direct should update the record to show they hold the mortgage on your house and it should show the history of mortgage holders.
You can also check your credit records with Experian etc. You can do this online now. It should show that the mortgage has been completed and your new lender will show as a new record. Again you will have to wait a few weeks as the records are often only updated monthly.0
