Didn't something like that happen when Ireland entered the Euro - I went on holiday there about seven years ago and everywhere you looked there was building work going on, and people reckoned it was because everyone who had been saving cash that they didn't want to declare to the tax man was busy spending it while they still could.
It happened across Europe, you are absolutely right.

Where did you think I stole the idea from?

The problem is there are two conflicting issues
    1) The govt. wants to use Keynesian economics to pull the country out of this mess.
    2) The govt. needs to cut back spending because we can't afford it.

It's a shame the govt. didn't put any money aside for a rainy day allowing proper use of Keynesian principles & it's a shame the govt. is now hammering those of us that did with low interest rates.

Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

In Italy I became aware of a two currency system. On one you don't pay tax, but are limited to certain 'outlets' for your expenditure.

The OP ignores the fact that Labour don't do cuts. It's only the 'evil Tories' that make them. Labour just spends and spends until they go bust.

Also, the whole impetus of government since 1997 has been the creation of non-jobs and tax revenue from ever-greater interference in individual freedom, hence ID cards, the smoking ban and the encroaching bans on drinking. Labour doesn't legalise things, it 'illegalises' them.
