Divorcing: Broker, Guarantor & Options ??

How do I find a mortgage broker.
Have done an internet search but only seems to return large companies who charge big fees.
In an ideal world I’d like someone local (Kent), friendly, whole of market. Understand the commission or fee paying options (well kind of from the sticky thread).
But how do I find someone reputable and not end up paying a fortune. Don’t know anyone who has used one so can’t go via referral.
I’m getting divorced, to see if I can remain in the family home I need to find a provider who will consider salary, WTC, TC and maintenance. From reading previous posts it seem i’ll be limited to Cheltham & Gloucester, A&L, Abbey, Halifax & Yorkshire BS. So although I like the idea of a broker taking away the stress of arranging the mortgage if these are my only options am I not better off approaching them directly anyway.
My Mum has offered to take out a joint mortgage with me or at least act as a guarantor. Hopefully I will only need this type of assistance for a couple of years but as she is nearly 60 would she be considered anyway?
Any assistance would be great.
