Lidls not cheap anymore?

Anyone else noticed this?
I use their tinned Sweetcorn for fishing bait and it went up from 19p to 29p a can during the petrol price hike and never got reduced again plus the same for many other of their lines.
Their electrical stuff is still good though in only for the three year guarantee.
Never skimp on Shoes,Tea bags and fishing tackle!

Notto are at it also. I have noticed that their prices are on the rise. They put up large notices making out some item are bargins but do not tell you that the price has increased.

Same applies to all supermarkets, food in general has gone up in price.

As with everything there is often a 'knock-on' effect; cereal prices go up, beef, chicken and eggs go up as a result etc. The price of eggs alone has rocketed in the last year. A lot of cereal crops were badly hit in 2008, including wheat and rice. I don't think any supermarkets have managed to keep all their prices static lately.
Even though Lidl, Aldi etc. may also have increased prices I still find I save money shopping there, not just because they are a little cheaper than some of the big Supermarkets, but also because they have fewer lines and less items generally, so I am not so tempted to make impulse buys.

I expected things to rise due to the Euro being stronger and Lidle buying in from Europe.
Its Quicker to get round no impulse buys but prices on the rise.

Some of the problem of increasing prices will be directly related to the fall in the value of sterling. A lot of Lidl and Aldi products are imported and therefore they will now be costing more for the supermarkets to purchase. It seems that the fall in oil prices which should cause delivery prices to fall, has not been enough to offset the fall in value of sterling. Or, of course it could be that the supermarkets have found what they feel is justifiable reasoning for increasing prices. In effect, all supermarkets have increased various prices sharply and it seems to me that they have broken ranks and they're going for gold. Lord alone knows how the UK government calculates that the cost of living is falling. I really can't see anything but the opposite effect.

Yes, I wonder if Lidl, Aldi and Netto are taking advantage of their new found popularity.

But the £/Euro exchange rate hasn't helped.

I use lots of different supermarkets, with no special allegiance to any one. Lidl & Aldi aren't, in my view, always the cheapest option. In fact, on balance I would say that Aldi are rather more expensive than Lidl or Netto.

It's not just the sterling/euro rate that's problemous. Sterling has fallen by about a third against most currencies. Obviously it would be better if supermarkets were to source from Iceland, not the store, the country!

Some things are expensive in Lidl & Aldi, i usually do a shop in Aldi then get the rest from Sainsburys, example from last night cheapest box of tissues was 84p in Aldi but 25p in Sainsburys, but then Aldi are 36p for Lemonade & Cola and Sainsburys are about 80p ish.
