How do I get something removed from my Credit Report that I've actually paid!

Hi,
I recently accessed my credit report and a car loan (which I paid in June 2007) in full, is showing as unpaid with 18 months worth of late payments. After getting into financial difficulty, I did a voluntary thing where I actually gave them the car back (they led me to believe this would end the loan, and no more payments would be made), and then a few months later I received a letter from a debt collection agency called Red Castle Recoveries for near enough the full amount. I started a monthly payment with them, and when I re mortgaged in June 07 just paid the whole thing off.
Unfortunately for me, they have not let Experian know I've actually settled on this. I wrote to them about 6 weeks ago to which they haven't replied. I also wrote to the original company but they won't have it removed from my report as they say its now nothing to do with them. I'm extremely frustrated as I have a bank statement showing the large payment I made to clear it, and even a letter from them acknowledging full and final settlement. What can I do now? I'm worried that every month thats passing is adding another default payment on to my report.
Can anyone help?!

Write to experian with your evidence and copy of your letter to Red Castle Recoveries. Maybe a kick from them will get your records corrected?

    R.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
  • Yeah, I've done that, and still nothing. Experian said they will write that we are disputing it underneath the entry on my report, but thats all they can do and this will only last for 28 days! Very peed off!

There is a watchdog type agency or information commissioner or something, but at this time I fail to remember the exact details, but basically you do have recourse. How long ago did you write to the company about the incorrect information? If it is more than 2 weeks ago I would write again stating that you will go to the information commissioner.

I am sure that the site is www.ico.gov.uk but I will let you check the details.

just out of interest how long would it normally take to have something that you have paid in full removed from your credit report??
I repaid a loan in full a year ago, but have not thought to even check if this has been removed from my credit report as I just assumed it would be automatically once i'd paid it :-(
Life is too short for regrets, wake each day with a new slate and forget those that bring you tears, they're not worth it, but relish those that bring you a smile! :p x

6 years from the last payment. It's still there, just shows as settled.
