  • Didn't see any posts on this but I watched a programme last night called Monty Halls Great Escape and thought it was good.
Just thought I would mention it in case anyone is interested. If you missed it it's on iplayer and there are another 2 (?) episodes to come. Sundays at 9pm: BBC2.

Thanks for the heads up about this. I totally missed reading anything about it, but watched it on i-player last night and really enjoyed it. Not sure I'd like to do it though, well not unless the local library is round the bend in the road :rotfl: :rotfl:

  • Nodwah - the Northwest had a glorious summer in 2008, a lot better than normal and not nearly as much rain as usual ;)

Yes, April and May was gorgeous last year - they got lucky when they chose to do the filming in those months. April was sunny and warm in the valleys but loads of snow on the hills (best skiing for years!) and May was sunny too.

Some pics of Applecross here from around that time:

May and June is often good, this is from 2007:

I'm glad I spotted this, I love Applecross & I'll be able to catch the rest of the programmes :)

every July a crowd of us go up to the Strathcarron Highland Games (not nearly as dull as it sounds, the locals are great fun :D) & we always have a day trip to Applecross, the drive itself is stunning, if terrifying in parts! & the Inn does lovely food that you can eat in the beer garden looking out over to the Isle of Skye, it's an absolutely breathtaking setting

I have some pics taken from there, if I can find them I'll post a couple

ooh thanks for this I'll go watch on i player shortly as this is in my neck of the woods, though I haven't been over to applecross for a while. If they filmed it last year we had a really fantastic dry hot summer, the best for a few years :j

Thanks for this OP. I look forward to watching it tonight.

As others have said, May and June (and often April) are usually the best months we have here on the West Coast. I'm amazed how many people know Applecross.

PS. Your Photos are amazing Competitionscafe!!!
  • Ive been looking forward to this since I saw Monty at last years Dive Show at the NEC.
The guy is a well known name in the diving world, and a regular fixture at the annual dive show.
There is an interview with him here if anyone is interested.

We watched it too and found it interesting especially as i know the area quite well. The pass of the cattle is a hair raising drive, not so bad going down, but coming back up, not a happy experience...........we were staying on the caravan site at Applecorss, you can only get into it one way, and not the way he went!!!!!!!! Its right on the edge of the cliff, a gale force wind and I would not have given much for the chances of the caravan going over the edge!!!!

I look forward to the next instalment..............

Thanks for jogging my memory. I stayed at that site in a campervan many years ago and I absolutely loved it. When we were there they baked bread and buns to sell to the campers - mmmmmmmmmm yummy. :D
