If you check the reviews on Amazon you'll find a lot of dissatisfied users of this product due to unreliability.
  • I think you'll find most of those reviews relate to the 5GB model which has now been discontinued. The headphone socket problem is supposed to have been resolved with the newer 6GB model. Anyway fantastic service from Boysstuff mine arrived this morning!

Creative advertise their refurb stock on ebay. 6gb are currently available in silver, white, dark blue and black for £99.99 P&P free.
Not sure if I'm allowed to link to the ebay shop - but a search for creative.shop.europe should find it!
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

mine arrived yesterday, i'm so chuffed! thanks again maff257! currently listening to the radio in work, but the sound quality of mp3s is awesome! shame my computer's a bit slow at ripping cds...i haven't had a chance to get many on yet.

anyone seen any good deals around on accessories!?
  • It's really worth updating the firmware if you haven't already done so as it improves functionality, also download the latest Creative software from their site as it makes transferring MP3's to the player much easier.
  • Spent all yesterday shopping around for the best price on the Zen 6gb and then got cuaght up in the 'if I pay a few quid more I can get the next one up...' routine, I ended up buying the 40gb Zen touch from OverClockers, only people with any stock but only a couple of quid more than the cheapest I'd found. good
prompt confirmation of order, quick easy site to use and even let me ship to different address than cardholder on first order.
turned up today looks GREAT, just waiting for the battery to charge up.
from a strict MSE POV I'm not sure if I should withdraw the thanks I gave for this spot, as it has cost me a small fortune... no, it was a great spot and it set me on the path to a great product. thanks again!! :T :T

  • wsMcG - in that case I'm too late responding, but was going to suggest you took a look at this.

Not the latest model, and reconditioned (though I couldn't tell mine from new - totally unmarked and the manual had clearly never been opened - and it comes with 12 month warranty), but it's a 20G Philips unit for £99 plus postage.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

Thanks for the effort bunking_off, microdirect are in my favs list along with aria, it's a work thing. I'm a service engineer, hence having looked at this I decided against the refurb route. don't get me wrong I've nothing against 'all' refurbs, just if I was going to buy one I'd want to see it first cos they get returned for ALL kinds of reasons.
great spot though, and I was a bit tempted. Thanks for the effort

Play are selling them again for a £129.99 in assorted colours http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=hp&page=title&r=ELEC&title=819620

Should have taken advantage of the £99 offer though, never mind.
