Urgent advice please.

I am 55 and 4yrs ago my husband died suddenly. When I tried to claim on our mortgage payment protection insurance I was told that I was unable to claim because there was no life element to the policy. Because of this I had a large mortgage on our home so i had to sell and move to a smaller house. I applied to our existing mortgage holder because we had an excellent payment history with them and was given a provisional offer of 5.4%. Later this was withdrawn because of an amount of £47,000 was still showing as being outstanding on my credit file although it had been repaid in full months earlier. Anyway I ended up putting down a deposit of £50k and had a mortgage interest only of £114,000. I am finding it really hard making the payments and I ended up in hospital two weeks ago after having a heart attack.
Sorry to ramble but the advice I need is what I should do now. I have two sons one lives here and has had money problems himself over the last few months because of a drastic decrease in his income. My other son lives in USA and he wants to do what he can to make things easier for me. At the moment I have £40k invested in a house he rents out here. He would love to sell that house and buy mine but with the market the way it is at the moment that would be unwise. Does anyone know if it is possible for anyone who has not worked in this country for 3yrs to get a buy to let mortgage?
If it is should it be in his name only. Where would be the best place for me to go for advice?
