How do i go about cancelling it then, have read through most of the Threads and it seems Halifax are the only ones who aren't budging on the subject, Have rang them they said no chance, can't get a Loan elsewhere as they won't take it into account that the rent is split between me and my partner. Really confused and any advice would be really appreciated
thanks
thanks

I have a loan with the Halifax which I've had since end of 2002.
I only recently discovered that PPI was not compulsory - thanks to this site.
Therefore, I contacted the Halifax to try and get it removed.
In my own situation, I believe that when I took out the loan, PPI was sold as a condition of the load - i.e. acceptance was conditional on my taking the PPI.
The monthly repayments quoted included the insurance, and I was not quoted a repayment amount that did not include the PPI.
I spoke to someone in the loan department who passed it to someone else.
They phoned me back the next day and we had the same discussion again.
That person said that they could cancel the PPI, HOWEVER they would have to offer me another loan for the remaining balance of the existing loan BUT they could not guarantee that I would receive the same APR on the new loan, which of course will be higher.
Basically it seems to me that this is their way of them getting the money out of you anyway. They will cancel the PPI which loses them money, but they will try and get the money out of you anyway by giving you a new loan with a higher interest rate!
After I disagreed with that and rejected that offer, the Customer Advisor developed a bit of an attitude and said that if I was convinced I'd been mis-sold the PPI then she would have to refer it further.
So, now waiting for someone else to write to me regarding the matter. Apparently this should happen within 5 days.
Sorry that this is so long-winded but I wanted to give you a heads-up if you were going to try for yourself.
They will try and convince you that it's too late, that it's not possible and they will try and string it out as much as possible passing it from one person to another and making you wait for phonecalls.
I await this letter from yet another department, and I'll try and update.0 -
I found phonecalls a complete waste of time.
Like you say they just pass you from one person to another. Frustrating is not the word !
If you want to cancel your PPI write a letter requesting it be cancelled.
If they refuse you can write back, if you feel you have been miss-sold the insurance you have a case to complain.Debt at highest £16k+
Debt at lightbulb moment £14,800
Current debt £6336
Cleared £4206 in November 05 How ? Bye Bye PPI0
