tax code

I have just noticed on my pay slip that my tax code is 609L.Is that a emergency code or its correct.Have worked for same company since 1977 but in october 2007 we were tupe transfered. Total gross in week 48 was 20717.94 Taxable gross is 20717.94 and Tax Paid is 3017.40.

    Mine is 603L, I think if you have an emergency code the letter at the end would be different, so it looks ok.

    It's not an emergency code but it's above the normal code of 603L. Are you receiving any allowance for uniform washing for example?

    Assuming that your tax code is correct, the tax paid appears right.

    As jem16 suggests, a possible explanation of your tax code is that you have £60 job expenses which may be a standard rate for your type of work.

    yes that it i remember something about an allowance for washing uniforms so thank you all for the helpfull replies:beer:
